4 out of 5 stars cover flow IS turn off able   November 20, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

this is my 6th portable digital music device so far, and i tried to avoid ipods because they always got bad reviews for mal functioning and lacking features. this on is a different story. not only is this ipod the thinnest ipod ever made (you can stop here, apple, any further and it will vanish), its made smart, and so far its a very good buy for me. unlike everyone thinks that cover flow cant be turned off, it can. instantly after i connected my ipod to itunes a new firmware offer came up, and one of the updates was an option to turn off cover flow, among other things.

+ pros
-incredibly thin. i cant even tell its in my pocket
-aluminum casing and glass screen offer excellent scratch resistence
-very light
-very competitive pricing - 16 gb for what the nano offers is an excellent deal
- accelerometer - this adds a few fun touches to operate without pressing buttons, is very useful for rotation on the screen when viewing pictures or watching videos. games are now actually very interesting
- screen clarity
-simplicity of use

- cons
ITUNES- aS usual itunes is very frustrating and needs redesigned
- battery life- slightly below average for me so far, no big deal though
-everything is automated - when i put the headphones in the jack, or disactivate the hold button, it shouldn;t automatically turn on.

overall a big improvement compared to other ipods ive seen. the pricing and compactness, features and ease of use stand out. (get the 16 gb if you really want movies, or go for the classic or touch) i give it ****. for now

5 out of 5 stars Awesome new generation iPod nano   November 19, 2008
This was a birthday gift for my daughter, who had lost her previous iPod. This new nano, however, is way more powerful...and comparatively much less expensive. So, that means - BETTER VALUE!!!

She loves it, and I am happy with the no-nonsense purchase ability through Amazon!!!

Amazon customer forever!!!

1 out of 5 stars Fustrating would be a good word   November 18, 2008

I got this yesterday and it is going back today. It is a complete hassle to load and use. I loaded 100 mp3's which run on any other mp3 player and this machine says I have one song on it. It will not see other entries and it is NOT intuitive for those of us that do not have several hours to figure it all out. My one adventure with Apple will probably be my last. P.S. I dislike having a special USB cable end such that it can not be shared with any other piece of equipment.

5 out of 5 stars I love the nano!!   November 18, 2008
I really like the nano, it holds a lot of songs and has great sound quality!

5 out of 5 stars Lovin' it   November 18, 2008
I finally broke down. I had two mp3 players before this. One decided to be defective 3 times and the other died within 3 months. My one big issue with the others was the creation of playlists. People who have had iPods don't know how lucky they are to have iTunes. As soon as I plugged it in it scanned my computer for music and put it all into iTunes. Creating playlists was ridiculously easy and hey, I actually could create more than one... vs. one of the other players I had. It even found some of the songs that my Windows Media Player was too stubborn to play.

The accelerometer is indeed a pain at times, but with all these benefits... I really don't care. If you don't plan on changing your songs immediately, put the hold button on and it won't change. This works well if you just want to run straight through a playlist or whatever else. It isn't exactly hard to move the hold button. I did have the problem with it changing over and then not changing the volume. Again, when comparing it to any other mp3 player, this one tops them. I didn't have the 3rd generation nano so I can't really compare the two, but if this is the only hassle... then I'll just suck it up.

The style and color are pretty. How thin it is is nice (though you may have to check a few times in trying to find it in a purse. The screen size is excellent and I couldn't be happier.
