I travel. I wait. I go to meetings. I wait. I have a bedstand littered with books. I have a garbage can littered with newspapers.
Oh, wait. I used to.
Kindle holds everything. Easy to read. Simple. Battery life's excellent.
Negative. Sprint not in my area. Negative. Needs more textbooks.
Overall. Terrific.

I just wanted to say first of all I have been more than pleased with the amount of customer support I have received from Amazon.com. I was the on who got a defective Kindel to start and I called and Tech Support and they were wonderful about shipping me out another one instantly.
I purchased this for my mother for christmas. I have been buying books for her so she can get started right away when she receives it at christmas. I must say I am jealous and am thinking of getting one for myself.

I wish I had purchased the Kindle sooner. This device is amazing. The direct link feature to the Kindle Book Store is great. I hear about a book and type in the title - then it searches, and it's on the screen in seconds. I usually request a sample and it is uploaded to the Kindle within 15 seconds. If I like what I read, I purchase. If not, I delete it. There have been many times I have been in a coffe shop reading and people come to me inquiring about "the device". I have three pages of books on my home page. What is really great is the fact that the Kindle remembers every page of every book page I am reading. Consequently, I can go to Home, scroll to the book I want to continue reading, click on it, and the Kindle takes me to the page I stopped at my last reading of that book. You can bookmark, highlight a phrase/sentence (really not a highlight, but rather it blocks the item i.e., puts a square line around it), or add notes. There are many inexpensive books. Much less than what you would pay at the book store. Literally, with the number of books I have purchased thus far in the short time I have had it, it has aid for itself. I am no longer limited to carrying one or two books around when I travel, wait for an appointment, sit at a coffee shop, or at home. As I explored the Kindle Book Store I found there are magazines, newspapers, National best sellers, and recommendations based on your buying preferences. The only thing I do not like is the page forward and page back tabs on both sides of the Kindle. What I mean to say is they are good features,but they should have made the tabs smaller and toward the top of the housing rather than the entire length of the Kingle. When I pick up the Kindle to turn it on at the back or, when the Kindle is on, and I turn on the web link feature, I hit either side tabs and accidently page forward or back. Other than that, I love it and will rarely ever purchase a hard cover again. For those of you who have trouble reading a computer screen (because really the Kindle is a mini-computer), I do not believe it will be an issue. The page looks like book ink and the screen is glare free. I would recommend buying a small Kindle light attachment for times when you will be reading in low light.

I bought the Kindle now because it will allow me to carry a steamer-trunk worth of books on deployment to Iraq, without the actual steamer trunk. However, if I weren't deploying now, I would wait a generation or two for the minor glitches to be worked out.
For example, the NEXT PAGE bar extends the entire right edge of the reader--it is too easy to hit it inadvertently, and difficult to hold while avoiding this bar. Also, you can easily bookmark pages, but it requires a couple steps to page between bookmarks--forward and reverse buttons to page between bookmarks directly would be an improvement.
For reading alone, I have no complaints. The Kindle disappears completely from my attention, and I am able to submerse myself completely in the story--and that's what reading is for, regardless of the medium. Current books cost from $6 to $10 (excellent prices), and you can't beat immediate availability! Better yet, classics (Shakespeare, Twain, Dumas, etc) can be had for $0.99 per "complete works" volume!! I know I'll never run out of reading material!

I will never understand how the corporate decision-makers could have approved the design. It's nearly impossible to pick up the Kindle without hitting the "Next" page button or the "Back" page button. It is an obnoxious ergonomic layout. That aside, I love my Kindle. Having read three of the thirty books I have already loaded on, I can say that it is well worth the money and has brought me great enjoyment. I am getting ready to leave on a trip to Israel, and the flight back and forth from Florida will be approaching 30 hours. My 10.3 oz. Kindle will keep me occupied throughout most of the flight, not to mention the fact that the necessity to carry numerous heavy books has been eliminated. Highly recommended and looking forward to ergonomic improvements in the next generation of Kindles!
