Incredible Surprise! January 8, 2009 I heard Ordinary on the way to work one day and was instantly impressed although not knowing who the artist was at the time. When I found out it was Wayne Brady, I was shocked. I knew he had good vocal ability, but did not realize he had talent in the R & B arena. I took a chance, bought the cd and was blown away. This cd is one of the best my wife and I have heard in sometime. True R & B fans should have this in their collection. In an era where R&B has been redefined by oversexed, explicit and misogynistic lyrics laid to uninspired and oversampled tracks, this CD reminds you of what true R & B is all about. I love that I can play almost the entire CD in front of my kids (exception being FWB Friends With Benefits, just don't like the message it sends, even though the track is real smooth). Am hoping that his sophomore effort will be just as rewarding.
What a surprise! January 7, 2009 This is my first time writing a review for anything on Amazon. I had to take the time out to give Wayne Brady his kudos. I first heard the song "Ordinary" on the radio, and I had no idea who it was, but I loved it so much that I wrote the name of the song down and then went to YouTube to find it. I was shocked to find out it was Wayne Brady. Then I came onto Amazon to sample the songs and read the reviews. I purchased the CD that same week. I love it. My favorite songs are "Ordinary; FWB; Can't Buy Me Love; Back in the Day; All Naturally." That's half the album right there. I gave it 4 stars and not 5 only because there were a few songs that are remakes of old hits and personally, I like original music. But his vocals are unbelievable. He is so talented. I've told everybody about this CD and I hope that you folks out there support Wayne Brady and buy his CD. Don't diss him and burn a copy or buy a bootleg. Get the real thing. This CD is for the grown and sexy! Enjoy.
Definitely A Long Time Coming! January 6, 2009 This CD is AWESOME! Definitely put it at the top of your list to purchase! I play it all of the time. Wayne did an excellent job for his first CD. I'm ready for a follow-up CD! His cut, "Back in the Day" is a very "catchy" tune and takes me back to the 70's and 80's when I was a teenager/young adult and could relate to all of the things he sang about!
Great CD January 5, 2009 Love this CD. It's very cool and mellow. I have always been a Wayne Brady fan since Who's Line. I'm glad he finally put a CD out, he's multi-talented and so cute!
The Perfect Introduction January 3, 2009 Being a hard critic of artists remaking classic R&B songs, I was very impressed of his version of Sam Cooke's song on the Tavist Smiley Show. I purchased the CD 45 minutes from my house, and I played track one until I pulled into my driveway. It is critical for a music artist to introduce himself on his or her first CD, and I must admit he made a positive first impression. Not only did he introduce himself to his listening audience, he demanded and received the respect he deserves as a music artist. I knew he could hit a few notes every now-and-then, but who knew he could, 'blow,' when seeing him act silly on television? The pressure is on for him to devliver a powerful sophmore CD in 3 years, and I believe he will not disappoint his listening audience. If he can avoid remaking a lot of classic R&B songs and write from the heart, Wayne Brady will establish his own roots as preferred by a gentleman.
