5 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the haters. They're just not ready yet.   December 30, 2008
After more than a decade of being the most distinctive and unique voice in R&B group 112, for the first time we are seeing Slim step out on his own as a solo artist. Though some say Slim's bass-less falsetto voice is something they get tired of without the lower voice ranges of the other members of 112 accompanying it, I strongly disagree. Though I miss hearing all four guys together, I couldn't have been more pleased with this album. Nor could I have been more pleased with former 112 member Michael Keith's immaculate new solo album. This is another great album to add to your 112 collection, along with Michael Keith's album.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first heard this album. I knew I couldn't expect an album full of 112 material, because I knew I would be getting familiarized with Slim as an individual artist on this album. The up-tempo futuristic tracks on the album stood out to me because it's something you'd never hear from 112. However, the romantic crooner we know from 112 is still on this album as well. Ballads like "Sweet Baby", "Bedtime Stories", and "Apologize" give us exactly the side of Slim we've always known and loved. The upbeat futuristic tracks like "She Got That", "Leave You Alone", and "Love Crazy" introduce the side of Slim we never got to see. After hearing his radio friendly single, "So Fly", I was nervous that the whole album would be like that song and nothing like what I was used to from 112. I was pleasantly surprised when I found how rich in quality the album actually is. The single "So Fly" is definitely as radio friendly as he gets on the CD. The rest of the album is full of a mixture of tender soulful ballads and experimental upbeat tracks.

He invites old time friend Faith Evans to perform a duet with him on the album entitled "So Gone". This song is reminiscent of the 1990's when Faith Evans and 112 were both signed to Bad Boy Records and frequently collaborated. We learned that Faith's soft, gentle high-pitched voice matched nicely with the voices of the fellas of 112 when they teamed up on songs like 112's "I Can't Believe" and "For A While" as well as Faith Evans' "Caramel Kisses" and Puff Daddy & The Family's tribute song to The Notorious B.I.G., "I'll Be Missing You". It's nice to finally hear Slim and Faith's voices together again after all these years.

My favorite track on the album is "Bedtime Stories", because through this song you time travel back to the early days of 112. It makes you feel like you're hearing 112's 1996 debut album for the first time all over again. It was such a treat to be able to feel that again. He is extremely successful in bringing back 112's soulful poignant sound of 1990's.

Other stand out tracks on the album include "U Got Me (Addicted)", in which he sings about a girl he tries to leave behind until he finds she's made him completely powerless over her. I also love the dark side of him that comes out on the album. "Don't Say It", is a dark ballad about fearing that his woman is about to leave him. "Leave U Alone" is a dark, haunting, up-tempo futuristic track and the only song on the album in which he uses Auto Tune to distort his vocals to produce a haunting sound as he sings about coming to the realization that he needs to leave his unfaithful woman.

Love's Crazy is a well balanced album and does a great job of introducing Slim as a solo artist. This album introduces Slim's sound, which is fresh, futuristic, and retrospective all at the same time. This album is a must have for any and every fan of 112, and highly recommenced for any R&B fan who's willing to take a risk on something that, like I said, is both fresh and retrospective at the same time.

3 out of 5 stars OK...I guess?   December 16, 2008
Slim, the lead singer in r&b group 112....has finally left the nest and I can't say I'm extremely pleased. His voice is very unique and always has been,but singing by himself it can seem a little annoying at times. Most songs on the album are not R & B style , rather up beat club songs that you'd hear in club that plays pop or new age. However one song in particular is Bed time stories, it takes on a early 90's or later 80's feel. Something you would hear on the radio after hours for the lovers lol. But I believe he has potential, maybe a few voice lessons and or different producers. It's worth listening to,just to see what he's about.

4 out of 5 stars Great solo from Slim, though a bit slim on content.   November 26, 2008
Marvin Scandrick, Slim of 112 fame, has finally dropped his solo CD "Love's Crazy" after enough summer airplay from his hit single "So Fly" and much to his fans delight, we can say, "Yes, he is so fly." Love's Crazy is a very good album indeed with numerous gems and some surprising tracks that are very welcome additions. The album has it's shortcomings but not too much to deter any fan (or non-fan for that matter) from copping what is surely a great R&B album.

Love's Crazy has been in the making for at least a year and the production value is quite high despite many of the producers being relative unknowns. The beats, vocals, and content bode incredibly well and make for a great easy listen. The club bangers in the album such as "She Got That" and unknown gem "Leave U Alone" will instantly get any party going and i guaranteed to get many a spin this coming year, while ballads like "Bedroom Stories" and the Faith Evans assisted "So Gone" will keep the lovers content. The album has enough to stand on it's two legs despite it having none of the other 112 members. Like Michael Keith's solo effort before this, Slim has shown and proven that he is fully capable of taking center stage and delivering on all cylinders.

Unfortunately, there are a few minor kinks in this machine. For one, the album is a paltry 15 tracks, of which 3 are interludes reducing the tracks to only twelve. These are great tracks but a bit "Slim" on choices (like the pun?). The only reason this is a problem is because there were about 30 prerelease tracks that Slim used to feel out album reception through the web. There was a slew of awesome material that appears to have been shelved such as tracks like, "Pretty", "Reverse", "Way I Do" and it's remix as well as, "Rule Breaking", "Anything" and the now iTunes exclusive tracks, "Girl Like You" and "What More?" With such an amazing assortment of tracks, who decided that it was a good idea to omit all of the positively reviewed and highly anticipated tracks for the minimal selection we have on disc. While the selection is quite good, this was easily a 5 star album had it not been stripped last minute.

Nonetheless, Slim's first solo offering is quite good and rightly deserves its slot in any R&B fan and 112 fan's CD player or iPod. On a side note, the booklet hints at a possible forthcoming album by Slim and 8Ball of 8Ball & MJG titled "Fatboy & Slim." Aside from the obvious issue with using that name, perhaps tracks like "Daddy's Little Girl" are an early indication of more to come from Slim? 4/5 stars

4 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised   November 25, 2008

I enjoy 112 but had never purchased any of their music. I decided to get this CD on a whim, because I really like the first single, "So Fly."

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with how good the CD is. I enjoy many of the tracks, especially the one with Faith Evans.

Top Favorites:
* So Fly
* Pretty Kitty (bonus track)
* So Gone
* Good Lovin'
* Heels On
* She Got That

There are 3 extra bonus tracks on the CD I purchased from Target, all of which are good IMO.

Overall this is a good R&B cd and I'm very happy with my purchase.
