4 out of 5 stars A Improvement Over "The Documentary" (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars)   April 14, 2007

I admit, I was pretty amazed when I heard The Game's sophomore album "The Doctor's Advocate". When I heard that Dr. Dre wasn't going to be apart of this album, I wondered how is Game going to handle working with other producers. But he didn't let it affect him whatsoever, because he used it to his advantage. The Game has shown improvement since "The Documetary", and has gone through some drama between that album and this one. The fact that he was able to work with that and let it all out on this album was good.

As I said before, Game has shown improvement as a rapper. Listening to tracks like "Ol' English" and "The Doctors Advocate", Game shows that he is able to handle himself on the lyrical side of things. I really wasn't feeling the lead single "It's Okay (One Blood)" (check out the remix), but the second single "Wouldn't Get Far" is dope and features Kanye West.

Production on here is a lot better than "The Documentary". Since you know Dr. Dre isn't on here, Game enlists producers like Nottz for the bumping track "One Night". will.i.am, Dion, Scott Storch, and Just Blaze (I'll give his props in a minute), as well as others drop in and add some production for "The Doctor's Advocate".

Guest appearances are great as well. I mentioned a few guests earlier in my review, but like the song "California Vacation" which features vocals from Snoop Dogg and Xzibit. The Dogg Pound (Daz & Kurupt) do a good job on "Bang". Jamie Foxx lays down some of his R&B vocals for "Around The World". And damn, did they save the best song for last on this album. The almost nine and a half minute song "Why You Hate The Game" just blew me away, especially with that beat by Just Blaze. Nas and Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry appear on that song, and I have to say that it was amazing, that I hit the replay button on my first listen (I rarely do that on ANY CD). In fact that song alone warrants a higher score than what I was planning on giving. It's THAT good.

Although "The Doctor's Advocate" is nice, we still have some residue from the previous album. Of cource, The Game does his name dropping. I can't count how many times he mentioned Dr. Dre or "The Chronic" on this album. It doesn't affect this album as much as his first, probably because we've all gotten used to it. Also I wasn't feeling the songs "Compton" and "Lets Ride". Other than that this is one excellent album from The Game. He didn't let any distractions phaze him when he made this album. He also showed that he can carry an album without Dr. Dre's production (lets see if he can do it without Dre refrences). This is one album I can recommend to your library. The Game's sophomore album gets much props from me. If he drops more albums like this, there is no telling what he is capable of.

4 out of 5 stars Much better than the first   December 18, 2006
I must say that I am surprised that this album is a lot better than the Documetary. Game leaving Aftermath wasnt a bad idea at all. Standout Tracks:LOOKIN AT YOU, DA S***(SOUNDS JUST LIKE DR. DRE!!!), ITS OKAY(great first single), COMPTON(dope even with Will i am on the hook), REMEDY(Game kills it over a old P.E. classic), LETS RIDE, TOO MUCH, SCREAM ON EM, ONE NIGHT, CALIFORNIA VACATION(X and Snoop' verses were hot), and WHY YOU HATE THE GAME(long but great joint plus Marsha from Floetry was a nice touch). Filler: Wouldnt get Far(this song is such a wannabe of 2pac's All About U that it even bites the ending of All About U), Doctor's Advocate(a continuation of Start From Scratch where Game WHINES THROUGH THE WHOLE RECORD DRUNK!), Old English(SNORE) and Bang(does the Dogg Pound realize they're wack?). Bottom Line: This album is a definite highlight of 2006. Game sounds a lot hungrier on this album and there are no lame love records like Special and Dont Worry. Well...he does have a song with Jamie Foxx called All Around The World but its an alright joint. Complaints: too much namedropping, he sounds like Dr Dre on certain songs and too many references to a certain fashion designer whose clothing line is about as fresh a week-old roadkill. If Game can drop these hackneyed gimmicks he can be even better than he is now. All in all it was a great album.
