Not bad. August 7, 2007 While not the greatest live and/or rare compilation ever made, it is slightly better than many are giving it credit for. Rare doesn't necessarily mean stuff you can't get anymore/anywhere else/out of print whatever. Just because its on the soundtrack to some crappy movie doesn't mean its not rare. Its just the idea that its a couple of rare things on one Korn cd instead of buying all this other stuff. Like a crappy soundtrack you're never going to listen to again but only bought for one song. Me, I'd rather just buy this. And the Earache my eye is an extended version.. not the same one that appears on Follow The Leader. Let's get that one straight right now. The live stuff is incredible (especially the live version of Another Brick In The Wall that destroys the album version) except for two things. Firstly, the edited version of Right Now (while musically phenomenal) is unnecessary and makes them sound weak hearing JD say 'shut up, shut up I'll bust you up' and then 'I know I hate you' at the end instead of what he actually says. For anyone who knows the actual song.. ya that ruins it quite a bit and just comes across lame. I can ignore this one flaw on an otherwise pretty good album. The other thing is they didn't need to put the cover of Metallica's One on here. I guess its cool that its on it's own track instead of at the end of another but.. once you've heard this cover a few times there's not much too it anyway. A couple of minor things that separate this good compilation from being great. And yeah they really could have put more on here but it is what it is (and doesn't suck). If you're a completist needing rare tracks and don't already have whatever soundtrack Proud is off of or if you wanna hear some good live music (where Korn is usually best anyway) its worth picking up (and skipping over Right Now). You never know, if enough people buy this cd maybe they will release more rare Korn
This CD was Great July 27, 2007 Being a diehard Korn fan my review might be a little biased, but this cd was great. It made me even more excited to go to there show in August. The only thing that I was unhappy with was the names Jonathon Davis called the audience, but at 29 I may just be too old to understand that or really appreciate it.
KORN LIVE November 5, 2006 MAINLY TAKEN FROM THE CBGBs FREE GIG. GREAT LIVE SOUND. NOT TOO MANY RARITIES UNFORTUNATELY.
A disappointment. September 30, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For years, there was talk of a Korn "rarities" release, even as far back as 1998. Now, in 2006, we finally have gotten one, and well, I'm let down. I'm let down because this disc could have been so much more, and some of the track choices are just plain odd.
One of the major pluses of this disc (and the main reason to buy it) is the inclusion of the band's entire (I think) 2003 concert at the now defunct CBGB in New York City. A DVD of this show is on the "Greatest Hits, Volume 1" CD, and it's an awesome show. And, I must mention that whoever recorded/mixed these live tracks did an awesome job, because they are perhaps the best "live" tracks, sound wise, that I've heard from ANY band/group/person. The vocals and insturments are very clear, and so is the crowd when it needs to be. Fabulous. The only thing I found odd (among other things on this CD) was that the songs were sequenced out of order than the actual show. The first track, "Did My Time", was actually the THIRD track in the show, but I guess they wanted to start the disc with Head telling everyone to step back. Set opener "Right Now" is regulated to the 4th track. Just odd. But the overall is awesome.
Their cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" (Parts, 1, 2, and 3, of course) from the 2004 summer tour with Linkin Park follows the CBGB tracks. Like the original (and their official cover), it's overly long and tedious to get through, but a nice addition.
The next two tracks are where things get weird. This is a "Live & Rare" album, correct? Then why are two songs, their live cover of Metallica's "One" (from the MTV "Icon" show) and "Earache My Eye" (with Cheech Marin from Cheech & Chong on backing vocals) are included, despite not being very rare at all. "One" was a hidden track included on EVERY COPY of "Take a Look In The Mirror", and "Earache" was a hidden track included on EVERY COPY of "Follow the Leader". Both tracks can be found by fast forwarding a few minutes past the last track on each CD. So, I must ask, why are they included here? So we don't have to use our finger to fast forward on the CD's we already have? It's not really "Rare" if you can go buy it on a readily available album, is it?
We get two tracks from the band's Woodstock 1999 concert, which is by far the best show they EVER did. Why THAT hasn't been released on DVD is beside me. "A.D.I.D.A.S" and "My Gift To You" (with Jonathan's screaming freak out at the end) round out the live tracks.
Rounding out the disc is "Proud", a great forgotten track from the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" soundtrack. Jonathan's infamous repeated screaming of "WHY!!?? WHY!!??? WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYAAAGGGGHHH!" is awesome.
And, that's it. Just 13 tracks. I'm not sure of the total length of the disc, but I'm sure more could be included. Hell, I think even a 2nd disc would have been perfectly acceptable. After all, not too many non or casual fans will buy a release like this. It's for the die hards, so why not reward them? There are SO MANY tracks that could have been included that weren't. I hate when people do this, but I think it's worth mentioning what this disc COULD have been. We could have had:
Original Studio Demos of "Blind", "Alive", "Predictable" and "Daddy" (yes, they exist, because I have them)
"Sean Olson" (from "The Crow: City of Angels" soundtrack)
"I Can Remember" (B-Side of the "Got the Life" single)
MANY, many remixes/live tracks only available on import singles
"Jingle Balls" (from the "All Mixed Up" EP)
I appreciate including the CBGB concert (the only reason I bought this, other than to support the band), but the rest of this disc is very so-so. It could have been so much more, and it isn't. This is what we get after years of waiting? What a letdown. One thing I really DID like, however, is how the artwork/layout mimics the "Greatest Hits" CD. I don't know why, but I liked that.
Buy it for the CBGB concert, don't get excited about the rest.
fairly good live album but not too many rare songs on it August 30, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good live album but its not too great. It only has 13 tracks which i think is a bit short for a live album, as for the rare songs the only ones that aren't on other korn albums are the covers of metallica and pink floyd songs(which are great and made the album for me). The recording of the tracks is fantastic and you can hear everything as if your there at a korn show. its a good album but could have been so much better
