Amazon.com Immaculately prolific and blatantly ambitious, My Morning Jacket celebrate eight years as a recording band with what many refer to as a death knell: the double live album. Yet it takes but a single listen to declare that the brass neck and bravado pays off for this Kentucky band of longhairs, which released the 21-song epic as a companion piece to their concert DVD. Songwriter and singer Jim James's howling falsetto ricochets through MMJ's backlog of songs, which have been reenergized for the stage by the band's airtight live-show mettle. Dusting off remnants of the first two records like "I Think I'm Going to Hell" and the stunning "The Way That He Sings," then lining them up with the more contemporary "Gideon" and "What a Wonderful Man," MMJ never take their foot off the gas. In fact, rather than getting bogged down in concert-album fashion, Okonokos plays spanking new, almost re-studio recorded. And that means it works both ways: as the next volume in a series for those familiar with My Morning Jacket, or as a compendium primer for a band that never lets up and is always willing to circumvent the rules. --Scott Holter

This band is much better live than in studio October 2, 2008 I didn't consider myself much of a my morning jacket fan but this 2-disc live album is great. The vocals are a bit nasal at times but when he really sings out sounds much better. I didn't expect the number of well-crafted guitar solos either but it was a welcome surprise.
If you like MMJ, you'll like this live album April 12, 2008 I recently became a MMJ fan. I actually purchased this album on accident as I didn't realize that it was live until after I bought it. I like the rest of their albums so much that I was just hungry for another one. While I was disappointed at first, the more I listen to this album the more I like it. Because of it I am definitely making plans to see them live.

Muddled August 27, 2007 Purchased on the strength of their Austin City Limits performance. While it has some of the same exuberance, the quality is poor and the sound becomes muddeld.
Great DVD/CD August 4, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I rented this on Netflix, hearing that it was good. I gotta tell ya, this is great stuff. Grant it, I've had eight beers and God knows what else but thats what this music is about. Let yourself go and love it. Parts of this remind me of Sigur Ros almost, which is incredible in my book. Ethereal. Heavenly. Inspired. 5 stars.
Excellent live recording June 27, 2007 Best live MMJ recording I've heard. Double disk of songs spanning their last several albums and a few rare tracks. Excellent playing and clean soundboard recording. Fans won't be disappointed.
