Good Cheap 2.1 system January 8, 2009 My purpose for this 2.1 system is for listing to my ipod while on the PC and maybe an occasional movie on the pc. So I am bout 2 - 3 feet from all speakers. They are PC speakers, I would not recomend for a home theater or to fill a room large room. I was amazed by how clear the sound is and how loud it goes without distorting. I also liked that you can adjust the volume of the base to your liking. The base sounds great and really adds for a fuller sound. For those people who said there is no base, return it because there is something wrong w/ it. I have the sub under my desk and only have it set at half volume. When I turn it up it shakes my desk and is not distorted, popping, buzzing or humming. The Ipod dock works and sounds great w/ my ipod nano.
Pros:
Cheap - Good looking!
Good clear sound w/ great adjustable base.
ipod dock
Cons:
Nextel phones will intefere.
ipod dock is permantly attached to Subwoffer. Makes set up difficult set up and limits subwoffer placement depending on desk.
Overall - Great system for price. If this is your price range buy it!
Sound good, bad cable management. January 4, 2009 Sound is good, though I have a set of Altec Lansing ALS44's from about 2001 that sound as good if not better.
The "dock control center" is really just a power button and dial volume control on a "dock shaped" thing-a-ma-jig. The left and right speakers are hard wired to each other via the plug, the dock is hard wired to the subwoofer, etc. It was impossible to run the cables where I wanted to because of this.
These are my first "slightly more than basic speakers" from Logitech, and likely my last. Though the sound quality is decent, the cable management options really frosted me.
Not the quality I expected. December 26, 2008 I've bought numerous low-priced systems from Logitech over the years. I have always been impressed with the incredible sound quality you get for a buck. Looking for a low budget system for a machine I rarely use, I went with the X-240. I have the X-230 at work, which I have been overly impressed with. Clear highs, powerful lows. I would have thought the X-240 would only get better? Not so. The X-240 is just an everyday low-quality speaker system; you can get the same clarity with a $5 bargain bin setup.
For $20 (retail is $50? I'd have been really upset if I had paid that), I suppose I don't have much room to complain, as they are decent for the price, but I really was expecting something I could be pleased with. The dull and muddy mids and highs actually pain me a bit to listen to.
I don't see anything in Logitech's current lineup to fit what I'm looking for. Hopefully they'll remedy the lack of a high-quality, low-footprint, low-dollar entry with the X-250. I will be one of the first in line to replace this system with it.
they are just OK speakers December 23, 2008 if you are looking for an OK speaker, you may wanna consider this logitech. im not a picky person and dont know nothing about sound and stuff but the sound is sketchy when i turn up the volume just a bit and hear the static noise when no music is playing.
Waste of money December 18, 2008 They sounded bad right out of the box. I figured it'll be Ok for the money I payed for it. But in 3 days they started producing terrible static I couldn't stop.
It's hard to expect anything good from 20-dollar speakers. So here are bad parts:
Charger dock is useless. Subwoofer produces very muffed and unclean bass. Speakers sound very cheap too. Whoever came up with terrible design idea of permanently attaching charging station to a subwoofer with a wire needs to have his head examined. I needed to move 200-pound table to get it set up.
Big, big disappointment. I expected much better product from Logitech.
