I have a 3G phone. The on-line specs said it was compatible with a 3G iPhone but it wasn't. The incompatible case snapped off my silence lever. I returned the Otterbox and got a full refund and offer to have my phone repaired by the seller. Very good customer service. Apple fixed the phone for free. I received a new 3G compatible case for the Otterbox company and the product is fantastic. It protects the phone well. I don't use the belt storage unit because it's very difficult to dislodge the phone from the storage unit. Overall, great product, great customer service from the seller, apple and Otterbox. Just make sure you have the correct case.
 Do not buy! December 18, 2008
I don't like reading reviews that say do not buy, because I always think it just happened to them.
But, Sadly I have to say it for this product. It is a great case, strong and well made. BUT two problems; The oil slick that the other reviews mention are true. I tried for hours, taking it off, wiping it with a microfiber cloth, putting back together, repeat, and nothing. Sometimes it would look like I fixed the problem but then it would come back after touching the phone for awhile.
Then the BIG problem happened. Someone called me, and as soon as they said something an echo of their voice would come at them. I thought maybe it just messed up. So I tried calling my house line, and I got the echo. I took it apart and tested it, no echo. I put it back on, echo is back.
So in the end I returned it, and I am really disappointed. Besides the problems, this is great case.
The best total protection with one minor issue. October 30, 2008
After trying many different types of cases, pouches, and protective films the OtterBox Defender Series won my vote. My only problem is the membrane will eventually display small or light everyday scratches and the bubbles or air traps spots will not come off. I tried my hand and other non-sharp items to smooth out the air bubbles to no avail. The iPhone will loose its good looking aesthetics. However, I have learned my lesson many times over and will never use the phone without any protection. Many people complain about the access to the silent button, but you can easily go to general settings and change the Sounds and under Ring with the little bell icon, turn off the Vibrate switch and slide the volume slider all the way down. I got used to the bubbles and love the overall usefulness of the OtterBox Defender Series.
Awesome case October 11, 2008
This is one of the best cases I've had for my phone yet. You could drop this thing twenty times and not have a scratch or crack. My only complaint would be the fact that you can't reach the silence switch on the side of the phone. However, you can just turn the volume down manually or go into the settings. It's a great investment for those who are continually dropping their phone (great for my husband!).
Best iPhone Case EVER! October 2, 2008
I've had 3 different cases by three different manufactures since I bought my iPhone almost a year ago. This Otterbox case is, BY FAR, the best one I've purchased! Other reviews have criticized the "oil slick" created by the protective screen cover, but it doesn't bother me. I would recommend this case to anybody.
