Well worth the money. December 4, 2008 I bought the Magellan as a gift for my girlfriend. When in town she knows exactly where to go and has no problems getting there, but if she needs to go to a new place...that's where the problems may begin. She is better than me because she can drive stick and I can't. Well, anyone can print out directions and follow them but I believe that having to shift, pedal control and keeping an eye on the road for idiots that don't know how to drive and having to add reading directions can be difficult while driving. She finds that text to speech is awesome and the volume is loud enough where she isn't struggling to hear the Magellan. She also likes that the Magellan reroutes quickly. It is pretty simple to operate and the Points of Interests(POI's) are very helpful.
I will also say, that all I had to do to get the Magellan up to par with the other GPS's on the market; I had to download the updated firmware. The Magellan was cheap and well worth the money. I would recommend this product to anyone who has problems multitasking and/or has a manual. Make your lives a little easier and enjoy the Magellan for what it is...a guide to your destination.
Works for me. December 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The unit came with no defects that I could see. I connected the ac adapter and the maestro came to life. I checked the the firmware and it was out of date, after updating the firmware it seemed to respond faster.
The main reason I purchased this unit was the AAA data. If you are a member of AAA you can download the lastest information for free. The maestro worked great on the road. I plan to use it alot before my 90 day warranty runs out. The map is out of date, its not a big deal for me.
great GPS for the price December 3, 2008 i have owned several GPS units over the past few years. i was looking for an inexpensive model for a 3rd vehicle. i couldn't decide between this 4250 and the tomtom one xl-s, so i ordered BOTH OF THEM. i was going to keep one and give the other to my dad. i did a little head to head testing, and the maestro 4250 destroyed the tomtom in every category. faster, easier to navigate, easier to update online (tomtom's site didn't work for 2 days!), better POI's, better map colors, easier bluetooth connectivity (tomtom never worked with my iphone, maestro connected 1st time and sounded great on a test call!), maps were better, yada yada...you get the point. i hated the tomtom so much i sent it back to amazon and am ordering another 4250 for my dad. for the same price, it's a no brainer - get this one! got the refurbished unit at $119, free shipping. unbelievable deal!
Great Features... Poor Performance... December 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Maestro is great on the feature set. The Voice prompts alo work (for the most part). However, it is sluggish (Windows CE....) Slow to respond on the clicks. Also, the map was not up to date. Was disappointed with the inaccuracy and the slowness..
Magellan GPS 4250 Refurbished December 2, 2008 The unit came in excellent condition and has worked good. Have not experience any problems with it and it is a very good GPS for the money.
