| Customer Reviews:
Disappointment all around September 26, 2007 I needed a way to carry my new Zen at the gym when I don't have pockets and I settled on this since most other cases come in "kiddie colors." I'll get to the point.
The Good:
-The case comes in colors that an adult can use, not just neon kid colors.
-It comes with both a belt clip and a lanyard.
-It's cheap.
The Bad:
-When I opened the case, the first thing I noticed was that it was badly scratched, especially on the screen area. Amplified by the light from the screen it looks absolutely horrible. Had I purchased this from a brick&mortar I'd have taken it back and accused them of putting a badly used and abused product in a new box.
-As others pointed out, the hole over the headphones jack is too small to use most headphones. And that was my excuse to buy my first Dremel.
-The "kickstand" has little rubber feet to keep it from slipping when it's sitting on your desk, good idea, but the there's nothing on the bottom of the case but smooth plastic, so it slips and falls down anyway.
-The case has a hole over the charging slot, but the lanyard arms prevent you from connecting the plug and no level of Dremel talent can fix this. So the hole is just there to let in dust.
Bottom line:
I was going to say that my son could have made this in his pee-wee shop class, but he walked by while I was typing this and said "That's an insult." So there you have it, even a ten-year-old pee-wee shop student thinks this is a crappy product.
Be Creative - Despite Some Issues, A Fine Case March 1, 2007 On the Plus Side:
Cheesy plastic, but a good solid case with two locks and full button access.
Why do so many cases hang the lanyard from the top? You wear this around your neck. That means you have to twist the thing around to look at it right-side up. Not in this case: lanyard on the bottom means you pick it up naturally and there you are.
I don't use the clip, or use the stand as a stand: it holds the earphone cord in place, as well as the sheath for my work badge. Nice solid locking clip for the stand, but I imagine it would weaken with frequent use.
Room for improvement:
These cases never seem to come with a recessed screen shield (some, in fact, come with one that sticks out). This leaves them susceptible to scratches unless you buy scratchproof covers separately and apply them.
Except for the sake of ventilation, I don't see why the bottom of the case is open. As others have pointed out, you can't attach your cable with the player inside the case. For people who work outside (like me), the opening presents a threat of moisture leaking into the port during so much as heavy fog. I fixed that with a thin slip of plastic held in place by tape, but the case is such a tight fit (which is otherwise a fine feature) that I had to experiment a bit to relieve problems with the buttons.
If you have earphones with an L-shaped plug, you might have to CAREFULLY trim a bit of rubber from the plug for it to fit through the case. (I don't know why players/cases don't design coverage for the plug--unless it's about making folks buy new ones.)
The thickness of the case around the on/off switch can take a little getting used to. Unless you want to risk altering the case...
Good Cover January 6, 2007 I liked this cover; however, there is something about it that could be improved. You cannot use the USB adapter while the case is on the device because the opening at the bottom is not big enough.
Also, my case arrived with some scratches on the screen. You would think that the company could send one without any flaws.
It does protect the player by locking it into the plastic.
