Product Description

The Pregnancy Bible, with 300,000 copies sold, is the most attractive and complete guide to this important event in parents' lives.

This updated edition includes authoritative information about the latest developments on a number of significant issues affecting the well-being of an expectant mother and her baby. Specifically, these include:

  • Revisions to the FDA/USDA food pyramid
  • New CDC recommendations about mercury and fish
  • Update on nuchal translucency screening
  • Update on screening for genetic disorders (in particular in the Ashkenazi Jewish population)
  • Updated information about loss rates after amniocentesis
  • The availability of ancillary testing when undergoing CVS/ amnio (like aneuploidy FISH and microdeletion FISH)
  • New information about 3D/4D ultrasound
  • A new emphasis on the importance of reporting domestic violence
  • Recent trends in cesarean delivery "on demand"
  • The importance of keeping vaccinations up to date
  • Updated information on teeth whitening
  • An updated section on the "breech" position
  • Update on Down syndrome screening.

The Pregnancy Bible covers the complete sequence of fetal development in utero week by week. Each stage is illustrated with full color photography. Many photos are life-size and reproduced from state-of-the-art ultrasound images. The book also uses step-by-step illustrations, sidebars, practical suggestions, topics to discuss, checklist charts, quick-reference gatefold spreads, check-up calendars, a directory and other easy-to-access information and advice to guide expectant parents through the pregnancy, birth and early infancy.

American Reference Books Annual praised The Pregnancy Bible for its "easy-to-understand style that will especially appeal to first-time parents." It is an essential addition to public and consumer health library collections and one that customers will request by name.

This is a great book. Very detailed, with just about all you need to know. The pictures are great too.

3 out of 5 stars What to Expect From Your Conventional Pregnancy   December 2, 2008

If your the type of person who is totally into the western medical perspective, going to doctors for pregnancy care, and having a medically managed birth in the hospital, then this is the book for you.

It is highly medically oriented, and comes from a seemingly neutral and non-passionate perspective. Their are lots of graphics and pictures. The book might be titled, "what to expect from pregnancy if you go the conventional route."

If your looking for something alternative and vital, you might try, Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6).

5 out of 5 stars Very Helpful   November 30, 2008
With my first pregnancy I ordered several books on pregnancy and this was by far the best. It has week by week updates as well as weekly pictures of your developing baby. I have now ordered additional copies of this book as gifts.

5 out of 5 stars Great resource   November 26, 2008
After searching Amazon.com for the right pregnancy book, I settled on this one. I have not been disappointed. I love the week-by-week photos of your baby inside the womb, and I have learned a lot about my pregnant body from reading this book. Some reviewers didn't like the graphic photos, but they are real photos. I will admit that there are a lot of photos of naked pregnant women, but it does give you a good idea of how your body changes. I recommend this book to pregnant women who want real photos and lots of truthful information.

5 out of 5 stars Best pregnancy book   November 2, 2008
This is a very good and informative book on preparing for pregnancy as well as your journey throughout pregnancy. I highly recommend this book.
